I have been spending all my time trying to take the
top ten games throughout history and implement them into the world of sports. The
game has to be iconic, but easy. Lastly, the game has to have a spectrum of
chance. This marketing concept is used to get fans to come to the games, even
if your season is on a downward spiral.
So without further adieu let us launch this gaming
campaign!
The object of Battleship
is to try and sink the other player’s ships before they sink all of your ships.
All of the other player's ships are somewhere on your opponents board. You try
and hit them by calling out the coordinates of one of the squares on the
board. The other player also tries to hit your ships by calling out
coordinates.
So how do we implement this
historical game? It is easy; use your stadium as the ocean. The seats in your
venue will be the various coordinates to place your ships. Now select a couple of seats to place your
battleships. Once you have placed your battle ships in strategic areas it is
now time to select a fan. One lucky fan will get a chance to drop 3 hits
wherever they want in the stadium seating. If they hit, they win a prize, but
if they miss, they don’t win a prize. Fun right?
Sponsorship
Who
on earth would sponsor such a game?
There are many corporations that would like to advertise in your venue,
but they do not want to waste their money.
Car and boat retailers are always looking for new and creative ways to
advertise their message to the public.
Don’t forget about our armed forces that
serve the United States, try reaching out to them for sponsorship. Remember, it
is all about putting the butts in the seats no matter what.

You sank my battleship!
ReplyDeleteThis was one of my favorite games as a kid. During the holidays, I went to buy the game and all that I could find was the new movie version, not the classic version. I was just reading that the movie had buy-in and partnership with the US Navy. According to BrandChannel.com, the Navy had script approval, casting approval and scene considerations and got to film on one of their ships. I would not have guessed that the Navy would get that involved - but then again, why not? Anything is possible. Check it out here:

Let me know when you are ready for a game of classic Battleship!
Thanks for the article Ken ! Maybe I can call it Battleseats or something cheesy like that ! Nonetheless, it is crazy what a little marketing can do for an organization. Maybe I'll get lucky and some top team will hire me for my ideas !
