Last
Saturday I visited Universal Studios. Hogwarts was one of the most fascinating
places in Universal Studios. The Hogwarts rollercoaster is an interactive ride
that takes you through the exciting moments that took place during the Harry
Potter series. The use of projectors and holograms left an impression upon me
that could not be easily lifted.
Why
hasn’t this technology been implemented in sports yet? Sure we see the flashing
lights with smoke and the logo of the sports team circling across the arena,
but what about fan interaction? If Hogwarts can bring characters from a book to
life, why can’t sports give it a try?
Six
, months ago Coachella 2012 (Contains Profanity) brought Tupac back to life. Tupac was back in action rapping, cursing and
degrading women. The press on Coachella was insane. This made fans everywhere
tune in to see if in fact Tupac was alive.
What
if the Chicago Bulls before a game showed a reel of top plays in Bulls History,
but in holographic format. Wouldn’t it be cool to see the Dallas Mavericks
project holographic images of highlights from the game into the sky? Innovation
is what keeps fans entertained. Spirits' of Hall of Famers could be brought back
to life off the television and placed right in front of fans in a
three-dimensional format. Imagine taking your son or daughter to a New York
Yankee game and there is a hologram of a talking, smoking hot dog eating Babe
Ruth. Needless to say that having a winning team is important, but creating a
once and a lifetime experience is a way to change the game.
Marketing
can extend a lot further than Twitter, Facebook, and giving away free prizes.
Sports venues need to give fans an entertaining show like Universal Studios.
Walt Disney was so successful because he wanted show people what they saw on TV
can be a reality as well.
So
if your reading this and your employed in sports, start thinking outside the
box I promise you it is a fun place to be.
