For those of you that have
been reading my blog, I have been steadily writing about sports in the
entertainment industry. Recently, I have obtained an internship with the
Houston Rockets. Last year, the Oklahoma City Thunder knocked the Houston
Rockets out of the playoffs. With the
addition of Dwight Howard, the Houston Rockets are looking at being a
powerhouse team like they were back in 1994 when they won the 1994 NBA Finals.
Working for the Houston
Rockets will definitely be an exciting chapter in my life, but I will blog
about that another day. Today I am here to share with you what my position
entails. I am the Corporate Development Intern. My responsibilities of course
require the typical “grunt work” such as Fed Ex/mailing responsibilities, Managing storage
space, receptionist training, but what I’m most excited about is the ability to
learn the professional sides of Corporate Development. In addition to the other
tedious tasks, I will be assisting with capturing photos of signage, events,
game night promotions, conducting research and prospect assistance, managing
pre-sale offers to third parties, and overall organizational assistance.
Working
for the Houston Rockets has been very exciting. Currently, we are helping the
top executives prepare for a trip to Asia as the team tries to gain sponsorship
for the pre-season starting October 4th. From my understanding,
these corporate big wigs meet with other organization in Asia trying to network
in hopes to gaining more sponsorship for the Houston Rockets and the Toyota Center. This totally makes sense as the Houston Rockets have been known to sign
players of Asian decent, but I am entirely sure that is not the only reason. I
guess I will just have to ask and find out.
Nonetheless,
I am very excited to be a part of the Houston Rockets Corporate Development
team. I look forward to all the relationships I will create as well as the
professional skills I will acquire.
